UNHRC

United Nations Human Rights Council

This committee is a United Nations body whose mission is to promote and protect human rights around the world. The UNHRC has 47 members elected for staggered three-year terms on a regional group basis. It's main function is promotion and protection of Human Rights around the globe.

Radical Islamist terrorism in its many forms remains the most immediate global threat to the safety and security of citizens. Either it is the killing of Palestinian protesters by Israeli forces or the atrocities inflicted by ISIS, civilians are the ones who have to suffer the most. Embroiled in a fight they never chose to be a part of, the string of civilians falling prey to such conflicts is tragic.

The military action taken against terrorism in the form of wars has had mild success in curbing terrorism. Casualties on both sides are catastrophic, with war crimes at an all-time high. Veterans suffer from PTSD at the hand of atrocities they have seen or committed while in service. Therefore, it is imperative that we now have a dialogue on ensuring that Human rights are guarded amidst the acts of terrorism and counter-measures employed for the same.

Hence, the agenda for the deliberation in the upcoming session of UNHRC is: "Protection of Human Rights while countering terrorism in the Middle-east."
