United Nations Commission on the Status of Women

This committee is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by Council resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The objective of “Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration” or “DDR” is to contribute to security and stability in post-conflict environments so that recovery and development can begin. Living in a world that is rife with conflicts, its role during the transition to peace and stability becomes critical.

To ensure complete restoration in every sphere, the introduction of a female perspective is essential. The episodes of female fighters participation in Guatemala and the exclusion of women in Angola in peace-building and reconstruction are among the many examples which show that the incorporation of a female perspective is essential in the implementation of a successful DDR plan.

This proposed incorporation, like any other, requires pertinent discussions and immaculate implementation. We, therefore, invite you to join this discourse: “Integrating a Female Perspective in the Planning and Implementation of Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration.”
